Background:
After completing my bachelor’s degree in business administration (focus on marketing and public relations), I worked in various roles specializing in internal and external communications (reading, writing, and editing) until I decided to go back to school to become an educator. I received my master’s degree in secondary education from West Chester University while working as a learning and emotional support aide in the Tredyffrin-Easttown school district. I have since worked with three-year-olds at Paoli Methodist Nursery School all the way up to juniors and seniors at Methacton High School. My true love lies with middle-school-aged kids! My most favorite years of teaching have been at the middle level and I am super excited for the opportunity to teach sixth and seventh grade ELA at SPS!
Personal:
Hi SPS! My name is Mrs. Heather Cecco and I am a Malvern transplant, originally from Maryland. I grew up on the Patuxent and Potomac Rivers and Chesapeake Bay of St. Mary’s County, Maryland. I attended Towson University in Baltimore, Maryland and have lived in Paoli/Malvern since 2004. In 2008, I received my master’s degree from West Chester University in secondary education. My husband and I have been blessed with four fabulous children, who all currently attend SPS. I have a portrait and event photography business, as well as a small cake-making business. When I’m not teaching or driving my kids around to sporting events, you’ll find me reading novels, baking, taking in live theatrical performances, completing house renovation projects, or hanging out on any body of water!
One Thing I Want Parents to Know:
You’re going to see a LOT of red ink….don’t be scared! Middle school is the best time to get our students writing and editing at a higher level. Content is important, but learning how to properly present that content is just as important. I love helping students strengthen their writing in order to be effective communicators! I also adore literature: prose and non-prose. I am greatly looking forward to diving deep into a few novels this year and hope to have some fun with our poetry (my favorite!) unit. God’s plan continues to amaze me and I am so happy that He has brought me to SPS!
